Snow Removal Survey

The Town of Nanton experienced one of the snowiest winters on record. It snowed almost every day from December 21st, 2017 to April 18, 2018. Residents faced numerous challenges that grew worse as the snow continued to fall and accumulate.
 
The current Snow Removal Policy outlines potential priority routes to ensure the safety of the community but allows for flexibility in how snow removal services are managed to ensure that staff can utilize resources efficiently, to be the most effective, and keep costs down while ensuring the safety of the community given unique challenges of each event. 

Snow removal is discretionary; there is no set amount of snow accumulation at which snow removal is undertaken.”
 
Snow removal throughout the Town during a regular snow event would cost approximately $20,000 per event. For each increase in expenditure of $10,000, taxes on the average property increase by $10.00.

In preparing to review the Town’s Snow Removal Policy, Council would like to provide you with an overview of the potential costs of regular snow removal.
