Entry Requirements and Criteria

The City of Madison Heights is pleased to host a Mock City Council program for Madison Heights high school students.  This program is designed to have students experience interaction with key local government leaders, learn what goes into running a city, start building a resume, and become future leaders in the community.  
 
Entry Requirements and Criteria:
  • Must be enrolled as a full time student at any Madison Heights high school  AND be a resident of the City of Madison Heights
  • Complete and submit this online Mock City Council Official Entry Form by Friday, February 17, 2017
  • Participate in the following parts of the program:
    • City Council meeting and afterglow - March 13, 2017
    • Day and Evening - March 27, 2017
    • Attend a citizen board/commission meeting (deadline of March 27th)
  • Essays will be judged and participants will be notified of their acceptance no later than February 27, 2017
Tentative Schedule:

March 13
    

7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.  - Attend City Council meeting and meet with City Council and staff at an afterglow reception

March 27

8:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  - Welcome by City Manager, practice Mock City  Council Meeting, tour municipal complex, participate in mock trial, shadow department heads - lunch provided

5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. - Student dinner with City Council and staff

6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. - Mock City Council

7:30 p.m. - ?? - Regular City Council Meeting (optional)

Terms and Agreement:  Entry applicant and his/her parent/guardian shall indemnify and hold harmless the City of Madison Heights from claims, liabilities, costs and charges (including attorney fees) for injury, loss or damages to property or persons (including death) arising out of student activities in connection with this program, or any breach of representation, warranty or covenant in this contract or in the Terms and Conditions contained in this agreement.  The student applicant agrees that the City of Madison Heights may, if it elects, televise, produce or display participation in the Mock City Council Program and/or the narrative submitted as well as produce collateral materials using the narrative submitted, pictures or film, in whole or parts, of the program.  By agreeing to the terms and agreement, we certify that we have read and fully understand the attached entry requirements and criteria and the terms and agreements stated above.
