Quotas must be flexible enough to cope with reasonable fluctuations in demand

Manufacturers should have contingency arrangements in place to supply product when wholesaler stock exhausted

Manufacturers should have dedicated shortages helpline, which has sufficient capacity and is adequately resourced with appropriately trained personnel

Supply problems and contingency arrangements should be flagged to dispensing staff at the point of order

Manufacturers should require prescription verification (e.g. faxing of prescriptions) only in exceptional circumstances

Manufacturer asking for patient and prescriber details not to be obscured before a prescription is faxed
