We are inviting people in Maine who are involved in all marine industries (e.g. fishing, aquaculture, marine services, fisheries co-operatives, fish processing, etc.) to participate in a survey about working waterfront. The goal of this survey is to help shape programs aimed at supporting businesses and communities in maintaining, improving and adding private or co-operatively-owned working waterfront infrastructure such as wharves, piers and other shore access structures.
The survey is being led by Jonathan Labaree of the Gulf of Maine Research Institute and Tora Johnson of the Sunrise County Economic Council in collaboration with partners at Maine Coast Fishermen's Association and Island Institute.
What we will ask you to do: If you agree to take the survey, we will ask you to answer several questions about your business and how you use and/or manage working waterfront resources. The survey will take about 10 minutes. The survey asks for your contact information so we may follow up with an interview, if you agree.
Your responses could help to improve Maine’s working waterfront by contributing to programs designed to support wharf owners and operators, harvesters, aquaculturists and more.
This study is confidential. No identifying information will be used in reports or publications about this study. Your time and inconvenience are the primary risk of participating. It is also possible that you could be identified along with your responses. However, we are taking precautions to avoid this risk, and the questions asked are not sensitive.
Participation is completely voluntary. If you choose to take part in the study, you may stop at any time. You may skip any question you do not wish to answer.
Note: You must be 18 or older to participate in this survey.
Contact information: If you have further questions about this study, you may discuss them with Tora Johnson at (207) 271-2175 or tjohnson@sunrisecounty.org.
