The USDA requires that all local educational agencies (LEAs) participating in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program develop and implement a Local School Wellness Policy (Wellness Policy). The purpose of this policy is to promote student wellness, prevent childhood obesity, and provide assurance that all foods and beverages meet applicable federal and state standards. At least once every three years, each LEA must assess compliance with the Wellness Policy and make this assessment available to the public in an accessible and easily understood manner (7eCFR210.31(e)(2)). This assessment is called the triennial assessment. The purpose of this survey is to ensure that all LEAs in Virginia have completed the triennial assessment before the required due date of June 30, 2021.
Any questions about the triennial assessment or the Wellness Policy should be directed to Laura Burns, VDOE-SNP Wellness Policy Specialist, at Laura.Burns@doe.virginia.gov, or your SNP regional specialist.
