Women's HomeShare Survey |
Housing insecurity is an issue of increasing concern. In Australia, it is estimated that over 400,000 women over the age of 45 are homeless, or at risk of becoming so. In the Lancefield/Romsey region, housing insecurity is evident: limited affordable rentals and increasing property values threaten those who are already vulnerable.
We are exploring possible solutions to housing insecurity in our region, with a focus on the needs of older women. One solution being HomeShare.
HomeSharing is a shared housing arrangement, matching older home owners, who could benefit from help in the home and companionship, with mature individuals prepared to lend a hand, in return for free (or low rental) accommodation. It is based on principles of fostering independence and mutual benefit, for both home owner and home sharer. (HANZA manual 2012).
We would appreciate your feedback.
