Kitselas CCP Actions Community Survey

We are moving forward with the next phase of planning for the Kitselas Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) that will help guide the Nation in decision-making on Reserve and result in a clear vision and action plan for the community.

Community input has resulted in a vision, mission and goals for the CCP. Now, we need your help in crafting the actions that will help us meet the CCP vision, mission and goals in the short and long-term.

OUR VISION IS:
"We are united in protecting our inherent rights and title as the Kitselas First Nation on the path to becoming an inclusive, self-sufficient, self-governed community."

OUR MISSION IS TO:

Preserve and celebrate our culture, traditions, language and the traditional lands of our ancestors to maintain our legacy for future generations;
“Be a strong, economically self-determined Nation;
Be collaborative, fair and responsible in our leadership, fostering a culture of open, transparent communication and setting a positive example for other Nations to follow;
Acknowledge the harmful effects of past wrongdoings and trauma on the health of our people and work together to heal and create our own future and a safe, healthy and prosperous community for our people;
Welcome future opportunities that support the cultural values and needs of the entire community;
Respect and take care of our Elders and celebrate them for connecting us to our history by sharing their knowledge of traditional ways, teachings, stories and feasts; and
Honour and invest in teaching our youth about our culture, language and traditional ways and work toward removing barriers to their future success.

20 YEAR TIMELINE
The Kitselas CCP is a long term visioning document so it is important to ensure that actions reflect current and future community needs. While the CCP will be reviewed and updated every 5-10 years, we need to consider both short-term and long-term actions for the Plan.

Start a community bus program for grocery shopping, medical appointments etc.

Develop an Asset Management Plan to track and manage Kitselas' existing assets and infrastructure, and to layout the needs for future infrastructure development

Encourage new homes to be planned and constructed using universal design standards (universal design standards ensure homes built are usable by a wide range of people, regardless of age, size or disability status)

Secure funding, design and build a community hall / multi-plex in Gitaus

Investigate potential updates to fibre-optic communication infrastructure (high speed internet) by engaging with Members about the pros and cons

Develop a strategy for using alternative energy systems like solar, wind, geothermal

Continue to implement the 5 Year Economic and Human Resource Development Plan with a focus on Kitselas employee attraction and retention

Provide job training for work with industry, funding for training etc. (so members can be hired with industry)

Conduct a feasibility study for gas station and convenience store at Gitaus

Implement a succession plan and training for Kitselas jobs, including senior management positions

Finalize a coordinated operations and management arrangement with BC Parks for Kleanza Creek Provincial Park, Lakelse Lake and the Kitselas Canyon RV Park

Review existing uses and rental fee structure for the Kulspai Community Hall and determine other uses and opportunities to maximize use and affordability of the space

Provide mentorship / internship / job shadowing for new graduates and youth

Continue to investigate partnerships with local/regional major employers that could hire Kitselas members
