Please note, Keeper Assistant Volunteer opportunities are limited and most vacancies are filled by Auckland Zoo volunteers moving from another volunteer role. Volunteering at Auckland Zoo gives you a unique opportunity to share your interest in wildlife and conservation with zoo visitors. You will meet and work with a wide range of people, and gain an insight into the Zoo's conservation and educational focus.
A Keeper Assistant Volunteer role is not for everyone, roles will include picking up poo, scrubbing down enclosures, chopping vegetables, washing dishes and weeding and can make for quite a long and tiring day! A high level of physical fitness is essential.
Volunteers will be working closer to the animals and the keepers - but animal interaction is not guaranteed. The keepers will provide training and expect volunteers to carefully follow instructions. They are looking for volunteers who are responsible and are accountable for their actions and able to work independently once trained. Work on section is important but can also be repetitive so a positive work attitude is essential.
