Welcome

May we take this opportunity to welcome you to your Induction Programme with Kylemore Community Training Centre (KCTC).

By joining the CTC you have taken the first step to gaining QQI accredited qualifications.  These show future employers that you have specific skills and knowledge, which can be transferred to the workplace.  They demonstrate you worked to certain standards and were able to achieve a recognised qualification.  You could then build on these QQI qualifications and progress to higher levels if you wish to at any date in the future.

This activity book will be used throughout your induction to help you to get to know KCTC and how we work.  It will also help us to identify together if there are any extra supports you may need to get the most from your time with us here in the centre.

We welcome comments and feedback from you on any part of your Induction or training course area as this helps us to develop and further improve our programmes.

May we end by wishing you good luck with your training and       remember to enjoy your time with us.

Best Wishes

The KCTC Team

Guidelines for the Protection of Young Persons in Community Training Centres

Irish law defines a ‘child’ as being a person under the age of 18 years old.

People who work with children and young people have a responsibility to protect them from harm and take action when there is a risk to their health and welfare.

Definition of Child Abuse and Neglect

These guidelines are concerned not just with sexual abuse but abuse more generally defined as:

 ·        Physical – where a child is deliberately assaulted or injured in   some way

 ·        Sexual – using a child for sexual gratification

·        Emotional – when the needs for affection, approval and security are not being met

·        Neglect – where there is significant harm to a child because food, warmth, shelter, nurturance and safety are not provided

Tom O' Reilly is the designated child and young person protection officer in Kylemore CTC.
