2018 JACK DONOHUE AWARD

The Coaching Association of Canada’s (CAC) “Coach of the Year” Award recognizes the outstanding contributions of a Canadian Coach who exemplifies the qualities of honesty, integrity, positive attitude, competitiveness, and a love of sport and who has demonstrated the values of of coaching excellence, continual development and lifelong learning. This coach also teaches their athletes to value life, its experiences, and the passion of playing for your country.

As a founder of the Canadian Association of National Coaches, Jack Donohue was dedicated to the profession of coaching and demonstrated care and concern for all colleagues. The CAC’s Professional Coaching Department presents the Jack Donohue Award annually.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to receive the Jack Donohue Award, a coach should meet the following requirements:
  • be a NCCP certified coach;
  • be licensed or registered with the CAC’s Professional Coaching Department.
  • possess and demonstrate the characteristics of honesty, integrity, positive attitude, competitiveness, and a love of sport;
  • have demonstrated their abilities through achiving outstanding results, or marked improvements of athlete(s)/team during the competition year
  • have demonstrated concern for Long-term Athlete Development;
  • have demonstrated care and concern for fellow colleagues;
  • have inspired others through being a positive role model and mentorship
  • have demonstrated the value of coach excellence, development, and lifelong learning
  • have presented a strong and morale public image;
  • have demonstrated a philosophy of fair play.
Selection Process

The CAC Awards Committee will review all nominations put forward by the deadline. If successful, both the nominator and the recipient will be contacted by the CAC by phone by the end of August.

If unsuccessful, only the nominator will be sent an electronic letter of decision by the end of August.

The CAC welcomes nominations that reflect the diverse makeup of Canadian coaches.

Exclusions:
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted.
Nomination Package

The nomination package must include:
  • Nomination form
  • Letter demonstrating how the nominee meets the selection criteria of this award
  • Supporting documentation (not exceeding five pages) that supports the nomination;
  • Letter of support from candidates National Sport Organization (if nomination is not directly from NSO)
Complete nomination packages must be received by July 31, 2018
