1. Harpers Wine & Spirit's Indies' Supplier consultation

Following Harpers Wine & Spirit’s meeting with independent merchants and suppliers on September 12 it was agreed that we would consult other merchants to see if they:

a) agreed there should be some form of code of practice that suppliers looking to service the independent sector should abide by
b) and if so, what should be the key trading issues addressed in that code

Having consulted with the merchants that led the initial meeting, we would like to ask you to agree or disagree with the following areas that have been proposed to make up a code of conduct.

Harpers Wine & Spirit will compile all the replies it receives from merchants across the country and present the results back to the trade for further discussions on how to take the issue forward.

Suppliers need to set out, in the public domain, their strategy for servicing the independent wine merchant sector

* 6. Suppliers need to set out how this is managed from the top of the organisation and understood throughout the sales team

* 7. Training and information is being provided to sales representatives on the company’s channel management strategy

* 8. Suppliers need to identify internally line by line, wine by wine, which channel or channels a specific wine is destined for. This analysis should be made available on request from independent wine merchant customers to ensure clarity over exclusive and non-exclusive lines
