Review of the Guidelines for Home Schooling Registration in NSW

In October 2017, the NSW Education Standards Authority (‘NESA’) published the Guidelines for Home Schooling Registration in NSW (‘the Guidelines’).

The purpose of the Guidelines is to:
· provide information about the requirements and process for home schooling registration
· set out NESA’s policies for administering the provisions of the Education Act 1990 for home schooling registration.

As the Guidelines have been operational for two years, it is timely to seek feedback from users as relevant to the purpose of the Guidelines. Feedback will be considered by NESA in relation to any updates to the Guidelines.

The following survey is open from 28 October 2019 and closes on 30 November 2019.

You are encouraged to respond to all questions in the survey, as they relate to all parts of the Guidelines. There is a space after each section for additional comments, if applicable.

It is estimated that the survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. It is confidential and your responses will not identify you. There are no mandatory items.

Having a copy of the Guidelines open for reference while completing the survey may be helpful. The Guidelines are published on NESA’s website at www.educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/regulation/home-schooling/home-schooling-registration.

NESA will collate and publish the survey results and any actions arising from feedback.

Survey responses will be considered in light of the NSW Government’s Regulatory Policy Framework. This framework provides guidance on best practice in regulating activities governed by statutory requirements, like home schooling registration. Information regarding the framework can be found at www.productivity.nsw.gov.au/better-regulation.
