The NHLRC is planning to update our 2009 survey of HL learners at the post-secondary level. (More information about this survey can be found on the
NHLRC website.) In our new survey, we will expand the focus beyond HL learners to include second language (L2) learners who study in mixed HL/L2 classrooms. These classes are at once the most common, the most challenging, and the most under-researched instructional context in which HL learners study their home language. Building on our previous work developing a pedagogical approach for mixed classes, this new area of the survey will give us a better understanding of the different configurations of mixed classes and the experiences of the students enrolled in them, both HL and L2.
