SAAGNY Humanitarian of the Year AwardPresented to the principal, employee, affiliate, and/or independent contractor of a SAAGNY member company. Brett Coplin, Imprint Marketing Concepts Gail Deutchman, Distinctive Promotions I am extremely humbled to be nominated for this prestigious award. I would like to thank the person who nominated me who remains anonymous. This is truly an honor to be nominated. Gail has always been involved in Charitable Organizations. She joined Sun Q Senior Network (501c) and they immediately put her on the Board of Directors as the Treasurer due to her fifteen years on the SAAGNY Board of Directors experience followed by five years on the SAAGNY Foundation. She jumped in with both feet and started fundraising during the pandemic to raise money to help keep the organization stay afloat. One of her successful campaigns was “The Pampered Chef “and Outdoor Head Shots for members to update their LinkedIn Profiles or for flyers that are posted for events. They will be hosting a second Pampered Chef fundraiser in October and also a Memorabilia for the Holiday Season all via Zoom. During the Pandemic in the middle of the move of her home/office she gathered clothing and food for a Homeless Shelter in Queens through a local church. She collected monetary donations to purchase Turkeys for Thanksgiving so they would have food on the Holiday. The checks from friends and family were tax deductible so it was a win- win for all. During any Hurricane she assists her Synagogue, who works along with other communities no matter the faith, to help to collect food, diapers, clothing, and blankets for others in need. For the recent storm – Ida - many families were flooded in Queens and Gail assisted in picking up items that were needed to help those in need. Gail volunteers her time in her own Synagogue to help the seniors in her community. Prior to the pandemic, she would take them food shopping, to the library or to doctor visits because their children did not live locally. She would have her son, Matthew, take the cans and bottles back to the supermarket for them. During the pandemic, she ordered their groceries on line for them, made vaccination appointments, and had a call list to check on them. Gail has worked behind the scenes over time for The SAAGNY Foundation and helps out whenever needed. Joan Lasser, Promotional Concepts As a nominee for Humanitarian of the Year, it made me think, humanitarian was not a word that I would use to describe myself. As I reflect though, it is truly how I live my life. People are my source of inspiration and motivation. I am the person that buys an elderly person's groceries at Shop Rite, I will treat the person behind me in Starbucks to a beverage, I will deliver mail to my ill neighbor from our remote mailbox. Anything that I can do to make someone's day better, brighter, easier, gives me purpose. I serve as a trustee on SAAGNY Foundation Board because I love our mission to serve others in need through our fund raising and events. I dedicate time to the Alzheimer's Association which is dear to my heart and family, my actions, no matter how big or small can make a difference and the rewards are amazing. JP Scarisbrick, JP Scar Inc. I am humbled by this nomination for the Humanitarian of the Year award and would like to thank the nominating committee for my inclusion. I strive to help my community, both professionally and personally. At my company, J.P. Scar Inc., I oversee a community donation program for unused clothing and promotional products. Through my work with the Massapequa Chamber of Commerce, where I’ve been a member for 8 years and served as board member for 6 terms, I have been able to give back to my local community through fundraising and event planning. I think it is important that local businesses, like mine, are able to support each other as well as their communities, which is why I frequently work with local producers and distributors. In my personal life, I am lucky to give back through frequent blood donations, something that I’ve been doing for 30+ years. I have donated over 10 gallons of blood in my lifetime and will not stop there. Thank you again for your nomination and consideration. OK THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING WINNERS! SEE YOU AT THE HOLIDAY PARTY!
