Welcome to the Good Shepherd Parents' Organization online registration survey! Below is a list of volunteer descriptions and opportunities. Please check all committees and activities for which you would like to volunteer.

* 1. ACOLYTE ROBES

The chaplain team needs assistance three times per year laundering chapel robes and cinchers.  Volunteers may do this at home or take the garments to the cleaners.

* 2. ADMISSIONS - GENERAL ASSISTANCE

Volunteers are needed to assist the Admissions Office at various times throughout the year.  Tasks might include assisting with special occasions (such as Open House), assisting with mailings, making telephone calls, or providing guided tours for prospective parents.

* 3. ADMISSIONS - SHEPHERD FAMILY

As a Shepherd family you and your child are the first to make our new families feel at home in the Good Shepherd community. The Admission Office asks that you call the new family as soon as you receive their information during the summer to introduce yourself, set up a playdate, and answer any questions they might have. Information relevant to new families will be provided to you to communicate to your assigned family. Throughout the year, should your assigned family need guidance or advice pertaining to life at Good Shepherd, you will be a resource for them along with the Admission Office.

* 4. ART ASSISTANT

The art department is looking for volunteers to help mat and display student artwork on a monthly basis.  Hours are flexible and would require 2-4 hours per month.
2 volunteers needed: (1) volunteer for lower school, (1) volunteer for middle school.

* 5. AUCTION

The Auction is the largest fundraising event for GSES, and it is the perfect opportunity to get involved!  Please review the volunteer opportunities below and check all committees that you are interested in.  This year the auction will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017.  We hope you will help us to make this a memorable and profitable night.

* 6. BIRTHDAY TABLE

PreKindergarten - 8th grade

Once a month, all students celebrating a birthday or half-birthday during that month are honored with a cupcake and a small gift during their lunch period. Volunteers are needed to bake and/or serve, as well as assemble gifts. If you have more than one child, feel free to check more than one month. Extra help is needed during half-birthday months (Dec/Jan/Feb).

* 7. COMMUNITY BUILDING

Come help us kickoff the school year and help with the Back to School BBQ on August 26, 2016 from 6-8! This will be a great event for our community to kickstart a great year and to welcome our new families. Our amazing Super Dads take care of all the cooking for the BBQ, but we will need additional volunteers to help the event be successful. In addition, there will be a Spring Social, details are forthcoming. Please let us know how you might be interested in helping at either event (or both), or we can find the perfect job for you.

* 8. FALL CARNIVAL

Our school carnival will be held this year on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 4pm-7pm.  It will be a fun-filled evening for the entire family.  There are many jobs that will fit any interest, schedule, or expertise.  If you know what you're interested in, please indicate that below.  If you just want to help where needed, we'll find the right job for you.

* 9. FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS

The Festival of the Arts is a school-wide event when children can show off their art work from different mediums - painting, drawing, music, performance, sculpture and more - to their parents and special guests. Volunteers are needed to help set-up the evening event, facilitate the flow of people throughout the school, and serve refreshments.

* 10. GRADE LEVEL COORDINATOR

Help make our community stronger by volunteering to be a Grade-Level Coordinator.  Grade-Level Coordinators help foster a sense of community among GSES families by organizing a back-to-school party and end of year party for all of the students in the grade, as well as organizing two grade level parent socials during the year. * 11. GRADUATION

ATTENTION 7th GRADE PARENTS!  It is a tradition at Good Shepherd for 7th grade students and their parents to host graduation activities. (This also gives the 7th grade parents an opportunity to see what's ahead!)  You can help the new graduates celebrate this important milestone with receptions during the final days surrounding their graduation service. Volunteers are needed to decorate, set-up, serve and clean up after the breakfast and evening receptions. Volunteers also are needed to help with video, gifts, and picture board display.  If interested in helping, sign up here!

* 12. GRANDPARENTS' DAY

This year, Grandparents' Day will be held on March 30th for Middle School and March 31st for Early Childhood and Lower School.  Volunteers are needed to help with all aspects of this special day including set-up, check-in, refreshment table, classroom assistance, photography, and serving as campus guides.

* 13. LIBRARY

Do you like to work in pleasant, congenial surroundings?  If you do, you'll enjoy helping the Librarian in our school library.  Volunteers are needed to shelve books, help students find materials, and assist at the Fall Book Fair.

* 14. MENTOR MOMS

Mentor Moms is a program designed to help new families transition into Good Shepherd during their first year. The mentor's role is to make new families feel more comfortable and knowledgeable when entering our doors for the first time as a GSES parent.  A mentor is assigned to 2-3 moms (maximum of 4) entering the grade from which one of their children has already experienced. Mentors should plan to meet with their assigned moms and/or dads (with or without kids)  at least once during the summer (an information packet will be shared with you to share with your families).  All new families will still be assigned a Shepherd family also, except for PK which will only have Mentor Moms.

* 15. ON-CALL

If you would like to help out on small jobs at different times during the school year, sign up to be an On-Call Volunteer.  We will keep your name on the list and call when extra help is needed.

* 17. SERVICE OUTREACH

Volunteers are needed to assist with organizing our annual Angel Tree service outreach project by organizing donations for The Salvation Army, Voice of Hope, and Mi Escuelita Preschool.  This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents and have fun while helping others have a happy holiday season.  The Angel Tree Distribution will be held November 16 and the unwrapped gifts will be returned in early December for delivery.

* 18. SUPER DADS

This is a great way to get to know the other dads at Good Shepherd. The Super Dads help out in a variety of ways including (i) preparing and serving hot dog lunches for students on Community Building Days (one in the fall and one in the spring);  (ii) assisting as needed with Grandparents' Day; (iii) working morning carpool every Friday and during inclement weather; and (iv) assisting with set-up and take-down of Auction and Carnival fundraisers. The Super Dads also host a fundraising Clay Shoot in the fall.  Dads with special talents, e.g. designing, painting or building skills, are often needed for various events. * 19. TEACHER APPRECIATION - CHRISTMAS PURSE AND FRUITY FRIDAYS

Volunteers will be needed for Christmas Purse and Fruity Fridays. Join us in carpool line to distribute flyers for Christmas Purse in the month of December or bring fruit for the teachers on any of the dates listed below. This is an excellent opportunity to say thank you to the teachers and staff and to let them know how much they are appreciated for everything they do for the children.

There will be two Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheons this year - Friday, November 4th and Thursday, April 13th. Volunteers are needed to help set-up, serve and clean up on those days. This is a fantastic chance to meet all of the teachers and staff that make GSES special!

* 21. USED UNIFORM SALE

The Used Uniform Closet needs volunteers to help sort uniforms, set up, and work sales. We will have a big back-to-school sale August 13, 2016 from 9:00-11:00 am in Kinkaid.  Help will be needed from 8:00-11:00 am that day. There will then be mini-closet sales throughout the year - specific dates and times are forthcoming.  Volunteers get first choice on the gently used uniforms!

* 22. YEARBOOK

Volunteers are needed to help with various aspects of creating this year’s yearbook. Specifically, volunteers are needed to receive and review photo submissions of 2 to 3 grade levels via the grade-wide yearbook e-mail boxes. Volunteers will work with the Yearbook Chair to sort through pictures submitted by parents, teachers and students and choose the best pictures to include in the yearbook. In addition, and depending on your individual interests, volunteers may be involved in the layout, design and organization of the yearbook as well. We need your input to make the GSES yearbook a success!
