King County's 25th Anniversary of Green Building Awards

We invite you to nominate projects, programs, and/or people that have demonstrated exceptional achievements in advancing green building in and around the County that model deep and meaningful collaboration. You may provide nominations for a single award category or multiple. Please provide a paragraph (no more than 2500 characters) in the spaces below for your nomination(s) and include the following information:

1. The project, program, or person’s/team members’ name(s)

2. An overall description

3. Details about your nomination’s qualifications for the award—for projects, highlight any distinguishing features or impacts that illustrate the latest high performing green building and sustainable development practices, including but not limited to:

• partnerships / collaboration practices
• community benefits
• green building innovations
• green building certifications
• C&D material diversion
• energy or water savings
• greenhouse gas reductions
• equity and social justice
• stormwater management
• cost savings
• sustainable materials

4. Links to relevant webpages or photos if available.

Nominations that do not receive an award may be considered for an honorable mention and inclusion on the King County Green Building Story Map.

NOTE: King County partner jurisdictions are defined as Cities, towns, and unincorporated communities within King County who have a working relationship with King County.

The award categories are as follows:

1. Green Building Leadership Award
(Total of 2 awards, 1 for Internal King County Projects, 1 for Community Partner Projects)

King County Projects: This award recognizes King County Capital and Infrastructure projects that have demonstrated early achievement of new King County green building requirements or that demonstrated a commitment to exceed minimum County green building requirements over the last 5 years.

Community Partner Projects: This award recognizes community projects within the jurisdiction of King County that demonstrate a notable innovation in overall green building design and exceed county green codes. This award is open to King County partner jurisdiction programs and projects, as well as private industry programs or capital projects and community-based organization (CBO)/non-profit programs or projects.

2. Community Partnership for Sustainable Affordable Housing Award
(Total of 1 Award)

This award recognizes completed affordable housing projects in King County and its partner jurisdictions that have exceeded minimum green building standards for affordable housing at the County and state level.

3. Tangible Change through Green Building Award
(Total of 1 Award)

This award recognizes a King County partner jurisdiction that is advancing green building through progressive actions resulting in tangible change across the community.

4. Excellence in C&D Diversion and Resource Recovery Award
(Total of 1 Award)

This award recognizes projects or programs that have demonstrated exceptional efforts on construction and demolition materials waste diversion and resource recovery. This may include projects that have utilized innovative methods such as adaptive reuse, deconstruction, salvaged materials, design for disassembly, etc. This award is open to King County infrastructure and capital programs or projects, King County partner jurisdiction programs and projects, as well as private industry programs or capital projects and CBO/non-profit programs or projects.

5. Equity and Social Justice Award
(Total of 1 Award)

This award recognizes projects or programs that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to advancing King County’s equity and social justice goals related to the green building and infrastructure. This award is open to King County infrastructure and capital programs or projects, King County partner jurisdiction programs and projects, as well as private industry programs or capital projects and CBO/non-profit programs or projects.

Examples are not limited to but may include the following practices:
• community partnerships/collaboration for sustainable project design
• promoting economic development partnerships for small, women, and/or minority owned businesses
• siting, designing and constructing projects to counter known disparities in site conditions

6. Green Workforce Development Award
(Total of 1 Award)

This award recognizes projects or programs that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to green workforce training and development opportunities. This award is open to King County infrastructure and capital programs or projects, King County partner jurisdiction programs and projects, as well as private industry programs or capital projects and CBO/non-profit programs or projects.

7. Patti Southard - Green Building Champion Award
(Total of 1 Award)

This award honors an individual whose long term leadership has strengthened and elevated collective efforts in sustainability and green building throughout King County. The recipient demonstrates a legacy of empowering teams, partners, and communities to advance shared environmental goals. Nominations are open to King County staff and external partners, including civic leaders and staff from King County partner jurisdictions, community based organizations, nonprofit staff, consultants, and community advocates.
