Periodically, a nationally representative group of faculty volunteers work with NBME to review and update the grading guidelines for the NBME Subject Examinations. The collaboration and recommendations occur via live, online standard-setting meetings. Clerkship directors and/or faculty (doctors) are invited to sign up and provide their expertise and perspectives to set grading guidelines related to the Clinical Neurology and Emergency Medicine Subject Examinations.

Medical schools that administer the Surgery Subject Exam may use the guidelines to assist in determining passing and honors exam scores for their students.

How will the Grading Guidelines process work?
  • An NBME psychometrician will facilitate three online standard-setting training meetings for the exams listed above, lasting approximately two hours, with up to 14 participants per session. Each participant only has to attend one meeting.
  • In addition, there will be two to three hours of independent work (ratings) for each participant to complete online within a week of the meeting.
Each participant that attends the training and completes their ratings will receive a $200 honorarium.

If you would like to participate, please apply below as soon as possible. The deadline to apply is October 11, 2024. Registration will close once we reach capacity.

Those selected from the pool of eligible applicants will be notified via email at the address supplied when. Check your email address for accuracy prior to completing the application.
