Editors Canada is looking at the feasibility of providing a new editorial designation for editors and communicators—a foundational skills editing credential.

A foundational skills editing credential would be a stepping stone toward our world-class professional certification program, which is now entering its eleventh year. Those who hold our professional certifications are capable of working independently to provide high-quality work.

We envision a test of foundational skills that would assess candidates’ knowledge of the basics of editing and give them an entry-level credential to use on their resumés, as a marketing tool, and as a building block toward careers as professional editors or communicators. Those holding this credential would be able to work as editors or proofreaders with some supervision.

We are sending this survey to Canadian organizations that employ editors or staff who perform editorial-type work.

We would be grateful for your feedback via a brief survey, which takes about 5 to 10 minutes to complete. All responses will remain entirely confidential. All organizations that participate in the survey will be entered for a chance to win a free Editors Canada webinar that you may share with your employees.
