100% of survey complete.

Last month, KICA announced its commitment to providing an unfiltered member forum for information sharing, discussion and general announcements.  Two options are being reviewed as potential solutions, and we'd like your input.
  • A listserv (electronic mailing list), like iKiawah or and unfiltered version of the KICA list.
  • A third-party product, such as Nextdoor or Front Porch Forum
Please take a few minutes to review the following information and then complete the quick survey.

Listserv

A listserv typically posts messages immediately and is easy to sign up for and to use. When you send an email to the listserv address, the email is automatically distributed to everyone who has signed up for the list. Some listservs allow users to limit incoming emails to daily or weekly summaries. It is not designed to allow users to customize what they want to see, or to find the name of that plumber that was recommended in an email last week, for example. A listserv has an owner and that owner is responsible for communicating rules of engagement, set up and ongoing maintenance.

Third-Party Forum Product

As technology has evolved, third-party products that create discussion forums have become popular. These products are typically set up, maintained and monitored by the vendor, and are free to communities. The users can control what they want to see and how frequently messages are sent to them. A user can choose to receive emails and/or log in to the website to see current and past information. Depending on how the member configures it, users can choose to receive emails about specific subjects like contractor recommendations, vacation rentals or even fishing. There are standardized rules of engagement, monitored typically by the vendor. Additional security is provided by requiring a user ID and password at each login.  An example of a community forum can be found at https://nextdoor.com/about_us/.
