In November 2017 Town Meeting Members voted to purchase the Forbes Hill property located off of Upland Rd. The property consists of 27 acres of land and the historic 1915 Forbes Mansion. The purchase price was $13 million dollars. The board of Selectmen appointed the Forbes Hill Taskforce to conduct research on the property and make recommendation on the best future use of the property. The following public opinion survey is an opportunity for you to share your opinions on the future use of the property. Your opinions are important to the Selectmen. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and let your voice be heard.

Before you begin, there are a few things you should consider as you are completing this survey.

  • The 30 year bond associated with the purchase of the property will have a noticeable impact on both the residential and commercial real estate tax. If no improvements to the property are made, the additional cost to the average home owner will be a minimum of $65 per year, for 30 years.
  • Residential Tax rate = $11.09 per $1,000 of value.
  • Commercial Tax rate = $ 22.47 per $1,000 of value. The property is currently zoned Limited Manufacturing and would be taxed at the commercial rate.
  • Currently the property is not being taxed because it is Town owned land.
