First-Generation Association Executive Board Self-Nomination 2026-2027

We're excited that you are interested in taking on a leadership role next year - either as a member of the Executive Board or a general member.

The purpose of the First-Generation Association shall be to: educate, raise awareness and advocate on campus and beyond; provide support through workshops, events, and mentorship; and bring together first generation students and their advocates to focus on students’ strengths rather than deficits, therefore empowering success.

Each of these positions carry out a few of their own responsibilities, but all are responsible for helping to plan, organize, and execute events, social media, and any other First Generation Association projects that the E-Board deems fit within their scope. Below is a description of the shared expectations for all Executive Board positions as well as descriptions of each, individual position:

Requirements for All Executive Board Positions:
1. Guide the organization and the purpose of the First Generation Association.
2. Attend all Executive Board Meetings.
3. Attend and collaborate all social and community service events unless stated otherwise (number of events is decided by the e-board and could be as few as 1 per semester).
4. Assist in the planning and delivery of programs and events exclusively for First Generation Association members (could be as few as 1 or 2 a semester).
5. Collaborate on providing members information on the First Generation Association Facebook and Instagram pages, which include social media postings for events and updates.
6. Plan, organize, promote, and collaborate with other E-Board members to have regular meetings, seeking advisor support as needed.
7. Members shall maintain a commitment to 48-hour email response.
8. Represent the First Generation Association and Salem State University in a professional and respectable manner by abiding by the SSU community standards and policies.
9. All registered undergraduate day university students in good standing at the University shall be eligible for E-Board consideration in the First-Generation Association.

The duties of the President shall be to: preside over all regular membership meetings, call for special meetings when necessary, sign all financial documents of the organization, serve as the organizational representative.

The duties of the Vice-President shall be to: succeed the President should they for any reason be unable to carry out the Presidential duties, assist the President in administering the business of the organization, oversee program and event coordination.

The duties of the Secretary/Treasurer shall be to: take brief minutes of each meeting and take care of any major correspondence concerning the organization as a whole, keep a record of all financial and historical documents and submit all financial records as required.

The duties of Public Relations Officer shall be to: advertise all events, workshops, and meetings, keep records of photographs taken at all events, workshops, and meetings, actively update all social media accounts relating to this association.
