2018 First2Network Student Application |
Thank you for your interest in joining the First2Network. First2 is a major National Science Foundation Project aimed at solving the problem of college students leaving STEM majors after their first or second year.
If you are a senior in high school, (or non traditional student preparing to go to college) who will be a first generation college student planning to major in a science, technology, engineering or math related field, then you are in the right place! We are seeking rising freshmen who will be enrolled in a West Virginia community college, or 4-year college in the fall of 2018.
West Virginia, and the Nation need more STEM professionals, but completing a STEM course of study can be challenging. The First2Network is a growing group of professors, state officials and students like you who want to improve persistence in STEM during the first two years of college We are piloting efforts to support you and others to achieve success. We ask you to join us in building a better environment for STEM students, and to be an advocate and leader in your hometown by encouraging future STEM students in your community.
By completing this application you are agreeing, if accepted, to:
-- participate in an all expenses paid two-week STEM research internship in summer of 2018;
-- participate in online meetings during the 2018-2019 academic year that will provide a forum for discussion, problem solving and skill development;
-- become a hometown STEM ambassador by visiting your hometown community in the 2018-19 academic year.
-- participate in our educational research study.
Depending on your level of completion, you may be awarded up to $400.00, and travel support to present at a STEM conference.
