Welcome

Thank you for contributing to the development of a feed and forages development (FFD) strategy for the International Livestock Research Institute.

The survey below will collect some basic information about you, and then ask for your inputs to various questions.

The survey is intended to help us identify major challenges as well as potential solutions in the area of feed and forage development.

Please respond before 17 September so we can advance the next steps in the strategy development.

Note: Personal identification information

When registering or logging into ILRI websites, blogs and platforms, collectively referred to as ‘the Site’, you may be asked to enter your email address or other details, such as name and institutional affiliation. Question Title

* 9. The most significant problems in feeding livestock in developing countries are (indicate the severity of the problem on a scale of 1 to 5, from unimportant to critical):

  1 2 3 4 5
 Limited availability of feed
High costs of feed
Low quality of feed
Seasonal scarcity of feed
High feed wastage
Lack of suitable technical solutions that farmers can employ
Recommending the wrong solutions to farmers
Lack of feed and fodder markets
Competing demands on crop biomass which limit availability as livestock feed
Lack of improved feeds and forage varieties
Insufficient information on forage value of forage species
Inadequate forage seed distribution systems
Lack of tools for on-farm feed management and decision making
Inadequate feed distribution systems
Large environmental impacts of livestock feeds and feeding (GHG emissions, water use etc)
Insufficient land to produce feed
Insufficient labour to produce feed
Insufficient farmer technical knowledge to adopt new feeding methods
Insufficient cash/credit to adopt new feeding methods
Policies and regulations that limit delivery of feed improvements
Inadequate data on returns to feed and forage interventions
