Join MDE for an interactive professional learning opportunity, “Equity and Arts Education During Covid-19”. In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic and the movements for change that are expanding since the murder of George Floyd, many have said, “We can’t return to normal, because normal was the problem.” So, what is necessary in order to make a more equitable learning experience this fall? How can we ensure that we don’t return to business as usual?

Macarre Traynham, Equity Specialist, and Alina Campana, Arts Specialist, will lead this professional learning opportunity, which will support participants to be able to:
  1. Examine and reflect on inequities that have been amplified during the Covid-19 pandemic and by the murder of George Floyd
  2. Make connections to the arts as well as their own beliefs and actions that either sustain or work against inequities
  3. Make steps toward creating an equitable arts learning environment through
    • Culturally sustaining teaching and learning in the arts
    • Intentionally focusing on our own competencies as well as an equity lens when integrating social-emotional learning (SEL) and arts learning
