About this survey
This survey is being conducted for a project funded by the Australian Research Council (FT170100420), led by Dr Jenny Waycott (School of Computing and Information Systems, The University of Melbourne, jwaycott@unimelb.edu.au), with co-researchers Cosmin Munteanu (Technologies for Ageing Gracefully Lab, The University of Toronto, cosmin@taglab.ca), and Elena Robertson (School of Computing and Information Systems, The University of Melbourne, elena.robertson@unimelb.edu.au). Thank you for your interest in participating in this research project. The following paragraphs provide you with further information about the project, so that you can decide if you would like to take part in this research. Please take the time to read this information carefully. Your participation is voluntary. If you do not wish to take part, you do not have to. If you begin participating, you can also stop at any time.
What is this research about? This research aims to understand how various technologies, such as Virtual Reality/VR, social robots and videogames, can enrich the lives of aged care clients. The intended outcome is a framework and guidelines that will detail the benefits and challenges of using such technologies in aged care and inform future design and deployment processes.
What will I be asked to do? If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete the questions in this online survey. The survey should take approximately 10-20 minutes and will ask you questions about your professional experience with various technologies in aged care. You will be asked about your opinion on whether these technologies are beneficial, and any challenges associated with using them in aged care.
What are the possible benefits? You will have the opportunity to share your thoughts about how new technologies might be best used to support the social and emotional enrichment of older adults. By doing this, you will be helping researchers gain a better understanding of what issues need to be considered when developing and implementing new technologies to support the social and emotional lives of older adults.
What are the possible risks? There are minimal risks associated with participation. It is possible that you may feel uncomfortable or unsure about how to answer a question. If this is the case, you may skip the question or exit the survey.
Do I have to take part? No. Participation is completely voluntary. You are able to withdraw (quit) at any time. You can also ask us to destroy any data that has been collected prior to you withdrawing from the study if you wish.
Will I hear about the results of this project? We will disseminate a short report about the findings when the study is completed.
What will happen to information about me? The research team will protect the confidentiality of your data. The data will be stored in a password-protected computer and will only be used for this project. Survey respondents will be referred to by ID numbers in any published work. Any references that might allow someone to guess your identity will be removed. The data will be retained for five years after the last date of publication. The data will then be destroyed under university regulations.

Where can I get further information?
If you would like more information about the project, please contact the responsible researcher: Dr Jenny Waycott (jwaycott@unimelb.edu.au).
Who can I contact if I have any concerns about the project? This research project has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of The University of Melbourne (ID: 1851239.1).
