The Wisconsin Essential Elements: English Language Arts (ELA) are alternate achievement standards for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities (defined here) that need to be aligned to our Wisconsin English Language Arts Standards. Academic standards define what students should know and be able to do in an area of study. In Wisconsin, all state standards serve as a model. Locally elected school boards adopt academic standards in each subject area to best serve their local community.
