The City of Manhattan has proposed to construct a neighborhood recreation center in Douglass Park at the corner of 10th Street and Fort Riley Blvd. The new Douglass Recreation Center would complement existing facilities at the Douglass Community Center (900 Yuma) and the Douglass Center Annex (901 Yuma). The new center is envisioned to include a gymnasium for basketball (main court and 2 smaller cross courts), volleyball (2 courts), and pickleball (up to 3 courts), and an elevated walking track. Other spaces would include an entry lobby, staff office, restrooms, and storage space. Exterior improvements at Douglass Park would include new parking and sidewalks, underground utilities, and storm drainage.
Manhattan Parks and Recreation and the Douglass Center Advisory Board are interested in knowing what additional amenities or features that the community would like to have included in this facility. This survey should take approximately 5-6 minutes to complete.
The anticipated budget for this facility is $3.5 million. The City Commission will receive an update on this project in February 2019. Thank you for sharing your feedback on this important community initiative!
