Use this link to indicate your interest as a Debate Mate mentor in the fall of 2016.

The 2016-17 academic year is going to be huge for Debate Mate USA! We are continuing to develop our programs in Boston and aim to serve approximately 25-30 schools. Last year we served approximately 300 students in Greater Boston on a weekly basis and aim to serve over 400 this year!

And ... we can't do it without you!

We contract YOU – college and graduate students – to mentor for a period of 16 weeks from October – April, teaching debating to either middle or high school students at struggling schools in low-income communities. Teaching debating is an incredibly rewarding experience and a great opportunity to impact the lives of young people.

What you do:

We need mentors with a passion for teaching and debating to mentor on our program. You’ll teach one-hour, weekly debating sessions to students in grades 6-8 as well as 9-10 over a period of 16 weeks, including our two competitions: the Debate Mate League and Debate Mate Cup. We ask that you make a commitment to mentor for the duration of the program, and if you’re available to work in more than one school per week that would be great!

Get paid per hour session:

We will pay you $20 for each 1hr session you deliver (and reimburse your travel costs) plus extra compensation for any additional training or competition days - over $500 for the year! We provide comprehensive and in-depth training to make sure you’re prepared to go in to our schools, as well as conduct the requisite background checks on your behalf. Our curriculum has been adapted to serve the US market and is ready-made for you to be an effective Debate Mate mentor.

If you are interested in mentoring on our program, register below and we will be in touch in September so you can sign up for a training session!
