About this survey

This survey is to gather information in response to the Rapid and Least Cost Decarbonisation of Building Operations: Discussion Paper.
We are looking for your insights on decarbonisation of Australia's built environment. This will help ASBEC to develop the best possible advice for building owners and policy makers.

The survey asks about your role and experience with decarbonising building operations. It then sets out the focus questions from the discussion paper.

A file upload option is provided if you wish to upload a separate document in response to the discussion paper rather than filling in the text boxes (see Qu. 7.). This option can also be used to provide information that adds to your survey responses.

None of the questions are compulsory. You are welcome to respond to all or some of the questions.

There is an option to leave your contact details. This will help us understand who is contributing to the discussion and enable us to contact you should any clarification or further information be wanted.
Thank you for contributing to this important work.

Question Title

* 1. Please indicate which sector/s you or your organisation operate in.

Question Title

* 2. Which jurisdiction do you operate in or represent? Please select all that apply

Question Title

* 3. Please characterise the state of decarbonisation of the building or portfolio of buildings that you are associated with. Use the sliding scale below

No progress yet on moving to net zero emissions Fully decarbonised - net zero emissions achieved

Question Title

* 4. What is the main scenario that you are involved with in your decarbonisation actions?

Question Title

* 5. Are there significant trends in the built environment that will impact on future energy/emissions scenarios? (E.g. online retail, sharing economy, circular economy, aging population, etc.)

Question Title

* 6. In developing future decarbonisation scenarios, for comparison of cost and benefit, what energy systems or technologies in residential buildings are going to play a key role in reducing emissions?

Question Title

* 7. In developing future decarbonisation scenarios, for comparison of cost and benefit, what energy systems or technologies in commercial buildings are going to play a key role in reducing emissions?

Question Title

* 8. Framing Scenario 1 of 3: Electrification with renewable electricity. Many existing buildings are already fully electric and ready to be powered with renewable electricity. Under this scenario all new buildings would be delivered fully electric and those existing buildings that currently rely on gas for some services will require retrofitting.

Questions
What are the most important barriers, costs and benefits that should be taken into account when analysing this scenario?

What are the risks and consequences of this scenario that should be highlighted in analysis for policy makers to be aware of?

Question Title

* 9. Framing Scenario 2 of 3: Renewable electricity + renewable gas. This scenario is  designed to explore the implications of changing to a fully renewable energy supply, renewable electricity plus 100% renewable gas supply using bio-gases and/or hydrogen.

Questions
What are the most important barriers, costs and benefits that should be taken into account when analysing this scenario?

What are the risks and consequences of this scenario that should be highlighted in analysis for policy makers to be aware of?

Question Title

* 10. Framing Scenario 3 of 3: Renewable electricity + gas blend + offsets. This scenario causes the least disruption to end use equipment at the building level. Renewables dominate electricity generation and some renewable gases are blended with natural gas to reduce emissions intensity while high quality carbon removal offsets are applied to achieve net zero.

Questions
What are the most important barriers, costs and benefits that should be taken into account when analysing this scenario?

What are the risks and consequences of this scenario that should be highlighted in analysis for policy makers to be aware of?

Question Title
