If you take part in this study, you will be asked to listen to a short piece of experimental music and complete three surveys to assess your personality type and emotional reaction to the music.  The experiment will last approximately twenty minutes.

Your participation in this research study is voluntary and you do not have to participate. You may refuse to participate before the study begins, discontinue participation at any time, or skip questions/procedures that may make you feel uncomfortable with no penalty to you for withdrawing.
This document contains important information about this study and what to expect if you decide to participate.  Please consider the information carefully. Feel free to ask questions before making your decision whether or not to participate.
This study is designed to determine how people attribute emotional content to experimental music.  To be eligible to participate in the study, you must be at least 18 years of age.  During the study, you will be asked to listen to a clip of music and indicate the emotional content experienced while listening.  Additionally, you will be asked to complete a personality inventory and emotional response scale to better understand how personality traits influence the ability to detect emotional content in music.  The study involves minimal risk.  Because data will be collected anonymously, there is not an elevated risk of participant identification or breach of confidentiality.  You will not receive any direct benefits for participating in the study.  Information collected through your participation may be published in a professional journal and/or presented at a professional meeting.
