2020 Virtual Candidate Training Program Application
Applications:
Applications for the virtual 2020 Candidate Training Program will be accepted through midnight on Wednesday, June 10th. Applications will be evaluated on a weekly rolling basis. You should expect to hear from Sorensen regarding your application the week after you apply.
Please note that there is no way to save the application and return to work on it later. For this reason, we recommend preparing all of the following information in advance.
Please note, there are several short essay questions that each require up to a 500 word response. The questions are:
* Describe your recent leadership activities. What do you consider to be your highest leadership achievement so far?
* What academic, community, governmental, political, professional or other activity are you most proud of? What barriers have you encountered while pursuing this activity?
* What political office do you plan to run for? When are you planning on running?
* What does state or local government in Virginia do well?
* What would you like to change about government in Virginia?
* What specific skills, knowledge or resources do you hope to acquire as a result of participating in the Sorensen Institute Candidate Training Program?
As well as a short answer to:
* How did you learn about the Sorensen Institute?
* Have you ever attended a Sorensen event?
Be aware that the essays are a significant part of the selection process and very important to making admissions decisions.
Once you start the application there is no way to save partial work so make sure you have everything you need to complete the application.

Applicants may also submit up to two letters of recommendation and a resume. These are not required; we will not review more than two letters. Letters of recommendation and resumes can be sent to Sarah.Campbell@virginia.edu.

Sorensen's Candidate Training Program is designed for people who wish to run in public office in Virginia. As such, applicants who meet this requirement will be given strong preference over applicants who are not from Virginia or do not have plans to run for office themselves.
