About CAPHIA Student Network

Co-Chairs:
Lulu Chen (University of Melbourne) and Kevin Chan (University of Melbourne) will serve as the inaugural Co-Chairs for 2026.

Objectives of the Network:
The CAPHIA Student Network will connect public health students from member institutions across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji. Its purpose is to amplify student voice in public health education and workforce development, provide a platform for sharing experiences and feedback on how courses, placements and early career pathways can be strengthened, and support CAPHIA’s mission by building the next generation of the workforce through networking, mentoring and skills development.

The Network will contribute directly to CAPHIA initiatives by partnering with the Teaching and Learning Forum, including a dedicated student session where representatives share student perspectives and examples of student-led initiatives.

The Network will foster cross institution partnerships, recognising public health as a collective endeavour. Beyond promoting opportunities across institutions, the Network will develop a student showcase blog or feature series that highlights student work, reflections and public health leadership. This would strengthen visibility, foster cross‑university engagement and build a shared sense of community within the public health student landscape.

The Network aims to provide professional development workshops by inviting experts and professionals to share their expertise and offer insights that support students’ growth in public health.

Meeting Schedule
The Network will meet online every two months, with a planned in-person meetup at the CAPHIA Training & Learning Forum in Perth in November. Meeting dates will be advertised in the CAPHIA Newsletter and Linkedin, and members will receive a calendar invitation via email.

Eligibility
Membership is open to any student currently enrolled at a CAPHIA Member institution.

About the CAPHIA Networks
