APPLICATION: When the Conversation Turns to Suicide, Boston, 8/19
Application
This application is intended for the two-day When Conversation Turns to Suicide training scheduled for August 1 and August 2, 9:30am to 4:30pm at the Bay Cove Human Services, 66 Canal Street, Boston, MA. Trainers to include: Sera Davidow, Cindy Marty Hadge, and Rafael Rodriguez.
This is a two-day training intended for providers, peer supporters, family, friends and anyone else who is interested in exploring the topic of suicide and how to better support people in the community who are struggling.
This training includes:
A review of the problems with how suicide is currently approached (and why something different is necessary)
Personal stories from people who've struggled with suicidal attempts and/or thoughts
An opportunity for participants to check in with their own beliefs and fears
An exploration of trauma as it relates to suicide
A chance to learn and practice the 'VCVC' approach that is central to Alternatives to Suicide
Individuals who complete this training should be able to:
Identify at least two myths and misconceptions about suicide that are common within society's current systemic approach
Explain what 'VCVC' stands for, and how each part is useful when supporting people to move through moments of deep distress
Identify at least two ways that they can use this information to shift their work/support approach
This training is free to Massachusetts residents. (There is a $100 fee for individuals coming from out of state, although that fee can be waived upon request and based on need.) Individuals who have already taken the Alternatives to Suicide Facilitator training should NOT take this training (unless they are seeking a refresher on Alternatives to Suicide overall), as it has a very similar focus (without the group emphasis).
Space is limited. Applications are due by Friday, June 14, 2019. We will notify applicants as to whether or not we are able to accept them into the training by Friday, June 21, 2019. If you would like to request early notification for any reason (travel plans, etc.), please e-mail us at info@westernmassrlc.org to inform us of your request.
