THE CITY OF CANTON NEEDS YOUR INPUT!

The City of Canton has started the preparation of its Five-Year Consolidated Plan for the fiscal years 2024-2028. The Plan is required to receive federal funds, particularly the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME), and Emergency Solutions (ESG) grant programs from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The City will receive an estimated $12.9m in CDBG funds, $2.8m in HOME funds, and $1.09m in ESG funds for the Fiscal Years (FYs) 2024 through 2028 to address housing and community development (HCD) needs. Eligible activities include public facilities and infrastructure improvements, public services, affordable housing development and preservation, homeless prevention and services, and economic development. Projects and activities must generally benefit low- and moderate-income households and individuals with incomes at or below 80% of the area median income.

The Consolidated Plan (Con Plan) is a five-year vision and strategic plan of how these funds will be used to help address the City’s housing and community development needs. As part of the Consolidated Plan process, the City must collect data from HUD and the Census Bureau, residents, and agencies such as yours that serve residents, businesses, and property owners of the City. Our consultation with you and your organization will help the City determine how to prioritize using CDBG, HOME, and ESG funds. This questionnaire is one of the tools to collect information on HCD needs from service provider agencies.
