The 2024 Jasper Research Seminar – the Foundation’s 63rd Annual – will be held on June 12 to June 15, 2024 at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.

Academic scholarship and practical value to energy practitioners are the hallmarks of the papers presented at the Seminar. Presenting is an excellent opportunity to invoke discussion, debate and new ways of thinking about the current issues facing our organizations, clients and other stakeholders, while engaging with peers in the Canadian energy bar. Papers presented at the Seminar are also published in the Alberta Law Review’s annual Energy Law Edition, providing presenters with the prestige of publication.

What Paper Proposals Are We Looking For?
We invite you to submit a proposal for a paper that focuses on relevant or topical issues of interest to energy law practitioners, including emerging trends or looming challenges in energy development.

In addition, we are seeking proposals to prepare the two update papers that feature prominently at the Seminar each year – one covering recent judicial decisions and the other covering legislative and regulatory developments.

Who Should Submit Proposals?
We encourage joint proposals from firms, regulators, corporations and other stakeholders, as well as creative and dynamic presentation formats, including panel discussions, to facilitate increased engagement and participation among Seminar participants.

How Can I Participate Without Submitting a Paper Proposal?
In addition to submitting a paper proposal (see Part I of this form), you may simply respond by submitting a list of topics that you would be interested in seeing included in the Jasper 2024 program (see Part II of this form).

Please use the following form to complete your submission. The deadline for submitting your reply to this Call for Papers is January 5, 2024.

Topics will be selected on or before January 15, 2024 and notification of the selected proposals will be made shortly after that date.

Papers must be completed and delivered by March 31, 2024 for a preliminary review by the CELF and inclusion in the Seminar materials.
