Section 1: Role Overview
Academic Supervisors provide mentorship and guidance to CBSN members participating in the CBSN–Mitacs internship program. They support interns’ professional development, ensure alignment with program objectives, and contribute to a positive learning and research experience. Supervisors also serve as the fiscal agents for internship grants, overseeing the administration of student stipends through their academic institution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide and support interns during their work placement.
- Provide feedback on interns’ progress and professional growth.
- Serve as a liaison between the student, CBSN, Mitacs, and the host organization.
- Facilitate onboarding of the student at their academic institution to process internship stipend payments.
- Participate in approximately 8 hours of engagement over an approximate 4 months duration of the program, including regular check-ins with the student.
- Monitor progress and report outcomes as required by CBSN and Mitacs.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience mentoring or supervising students or interns.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to fostering inclusive, equitable mentorship.
- Faculty appointment at a Canadian institution, eligible to hold Tri-Council (SSHRC, NSERC, or CIHR) funding.
- Applicants do not need to be current members or nominated allies of CBSN at the time of application. Successful supervisors will be invited to join the CBSN network or ally community to support continued collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Program Duration:
Academic Supervisors are typically engaged for approximately 4 months, depending on the project.
