Caltech hosts many community events throughout the year which only happen because of wonderful support from volunteers. If you would like to volunteer at any one of these events or are willing to be available in the event of a campus emergency, please indicate your interest by completing this volunteer form. We will contact you in advance of the event with sign-up opportunities for specific jobs. We will also offer an orientation to go over the event and the duties.

* 6. United Way Campaign Ambassadors – October (Month Long)
United Way is the largest charitable organization supported by the Institute. The Institute hosts an annual giving campaign that begins with our Family Night event and concludes with the HomeWalk 5K Event in November. Ambassadors are needed from each department/division on campus to promote the campaign’s online pledging, to attend an informational lunch and to answer questions from colleagues in their department/division throughout the campaign.

* 7. Family Night – October (Evening)
Family night is the Institute’s kickoff to the United Way campaign. This is a fun filled event for all Institute employees and their families. The night includes a pasta dinner, in-peson characters, and a family movie in the Beckman Auditorium. We always welcome volunteers to help setup, serve dinner, handout wristbands for the movie, and cleanup.

* 8. Staff Service Awards – June (Morning)
Caltech's Staff Service Awards celebrate our outstanding community of staff members and the important work they do to advance the mission of the Institute. Awards are presented in recognition of length of service with the first award bestowed at the 10-year mark. We need community volunteers to help setup, check-in awardees, escort people to their seats, distribute gifts and certificates, assist at the reception, and answer questions.

* 9. Take our Children to Work Day – April (One Day)
Take Our Children to Work Day is a national program in which Caltech has participated for the last 16 years! It is a wonderful opportunity for Caltech faculty, staff, and postdoctoral scholars to introduce their children to the exciting things that go on at Caltech and to interest them in science, research, and possibilities for the future. The day features department tours, lunch for children and their parents, athletics activities, and a featured speaker. The program is only for children in the Fourth through Twelfth grades and is limited to 100 children on a first-come-first-served basis. Volunteers are needed for morning check-in, chaperone tours and activities, give lab tours and reunite children with their parents at the end of the program.

* 10. Orientation Tour Guides for JPL New Hires – Once a Quarter (Afternoon)
Once a quarter we invite JPL new hires to visit the campus and find out more about Caltech. Participants come for lunch at the Athenaeum and then receive a tour of campus. This program typically includes about 100 new hires and requires multiple tour guides. Scripts for the tours are provided to all volunteer tour guides.

* 11. Campus Emergency Response Volunteers (As Needed)
The Caltech Crisis Management Council (CMC) is looking for members of the campus community who are willing to provide emergency response assistance in the event of a major disaster or crisis that interrupts campus operations. Volunteers are critical in the event of an emergency as their skills can be used to save a life, protect our research and/or continue the safe operations of the campus in a time of crisis. Volunteers are needed to hand out food, water, be runners, provide information, help students, translate, or use specialized skills (e.g. CPR, first-aid, plumbing, carpentry, etc.).
