The buddy program provides an opportunity to develop cross cultural friendships

The Buddy program helps La Trobe students to make friends, develop peer networks, and engage in cross-cultural exchange. The program not only helps students develop language and intercultural communication skills, it helps build global awareness as well as rewarding friendships between students.

And most importantly, it is FUN!!!

Note:

You will be paired up with another student from a cultural background different to your own at the start of the year, then you will meet up regularly with them for conversation and friendship, as well as having opportunities to attend events and activities, both on and off-campus, together and as part of the group. We will have regular afternoon teas, events and gatherings so that all Buddies will have an opportunity to meet and socialise with the wider group.

The benefits:

·         Increased social networks

·         Access to recreational activities (free / subsidised tickets & invitations to events)

·         Information exchange

·         Learn about another culture

·         Learn more about your university, study supports & services

·         More friends + more fun!!!

·         Please note that places are strictly limited, and the application does not guarantee a place. Selections will be made on a case-by-case basis.

If you are accepted, you will agree to:

·         Be part of the program for the 2020 academic year or one semester

·         Meet with your partner regularly (once a fortnight is recommended)

·         Arrange to meet either on campus or in a mutually agreeable place

·         Provide feedback throughout the year

Complete the application form below to be part of the program this year!

Note: In aligning with the COVID-19 updates on 'Stay at Home' and 'Restricted activities' direction from the Department of Health and Human Services, we have moved to Virtual Buddy Program for 2020 S1. All activities and programs will be delivered and conducted by phone or online platforms.
