Boaters who complete this survey will be entered to win a Sea Otter Encounter at the Vancouver Aquarium!
By completing this short survey, you will be helping the BC Cetacean Sightings network gauge the success of their Dock Talk programs and other outreach events, and highlight areas in which we can improve our outreach efforts to recreational boaters in the lower mainland. The BC Cetacean Sightings Network aims to increase awareness of cetaceans and sea turtles in BC waters and the threats they face by holding Dock Talks and outreach events. Our outreach aims to inform boaters of how they can lessen the impacts of their boating activities on the whales with which they share the water, and encourage them to report their sightings to the BC Cetacean Sightings Network.   These sightings are analyzed to better understand the relative abundance, distribution, and habitat use of BC's cetaceans. Having coastal citizens like act as our eyes on the water is shedding a lot of light on various cetacean and sea turtle species in B.C. and adjacent waters. Much of this data would not be recorded without our valuable observers - we rely heavily on the participation of recreational boaters.
