Consent to Participate in this Survey:
The National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) and the Santa Monica/Venice, San Pedro/Wilmington, Hollywood Hills-Hollywood, and City of Los Angeles branches of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) invites you to participate in a survey that will inform our new joint venture, the Building Bridges Project (BBP). The project aims to address why victims from communities of color underreport incidents of crime, as well as seeks to improve victims' services and to improve disparities in treatment and services for crime victims from communities of color.
This survey will ask you about a time when you were the victim of a crime. This includes questions about the details of the incident, your interactions with law enforcement, and contact with victim service groups in your community. You will also have the chance to give us your thoughts and suggestions on how to improve the relationships between your community and criminal justice professionals.
Your involvement in this survey is completely voluntary and you can choose not to participate at any time during the process. You may also skip any question that makes you feel uncomfortable or stop at any time, with no consequence to you. If you do decide to withdraw before the survey is completed, you may request that BBP dispose of your answers and feedback. However, the more responses we receive, the better able we are to serve you and your community. Therefore, we ask that you try your best to respond, completely, to each of the questions asked.
All of your survey data will be stored in a password-protected, electronic format, and all your responses will be kept confidential. Your name and other information that could potentially identify you will be kept secure and will be stored separately from your responses. Your responses may be shared among BBP member organizations’ (NCVC and the NAACP) staff and volunteers for research purposes or for BBP program improvement, but will not be shared with anyone outside of BBP (e.g., law enforcement). BBP will only use your data for the purposes mentioned here, and will not use it for further research without first obtaining additional consent.
Although there may not be any direct benefit to you for participating in this survey, the information you provide will help BBP's work toward bridging the gap between the criminal justice system and your community.
