Survey information
The eastern barred bandicoot (Perameles gunnii) is one of Tasmania's most recognisable native animals. But it is declining in many areas because of habitat loss and feral cats. It fills an important ecological niche as a small-sized predator of invertebrates, frogs and lizards in the understorey of grassy vegetation. Tasmania is its last stronghold as the impact of foxes and widespread habitat loss has meant that it is all but extinct on the mainland.
The Tasmanian Land Conservancy and NRM North will be rolling out a bandicoot conservation program in northern Tasmania over coming months. But in order to protect this amazing species, first we need to find them! So we are asking for your help. If you have seen an eastern barred bandicoot in the past 12 months we'd like to know where... Please take the time to complete this five minute survey and help us conserve arguably the cutest animal in Tasmania!
