Section 1. Welcome

Welcome

In 2018, voters approved the Aurora Public Schools (APS) mill levy override focusing on the health and safety of APS students. Thanks to Aurora voters, APS was able to expand access to after-school programs to over 1,000 more kindergarten through fifth-grade students and their families for the 2019–20 school year.

APS is working with the American Institutes for Research (AIR) to support after-school program expansion. To better understand the needs of the Aurora community, AIR is collecting information from families, school principals, after-school program providers, and community members through this APS After-School Expansion Survey. Community input is important to us, and we want to hear from you!

Who should complete the survey?

The survey is available to everyone in the Aurora community—from families to community members, school principals, after-school program directors, and after-school site coordinators. You may complete this survey whether you are involved with after-school programs or not. The survey is open to everyone!

How long will it take me to complete the survey?

The survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. You will not be able to save your responses and complete the survey later after you begin. We hope that you will do your best to answer as many questions as you can.

Benefits and Risks

The information from this survey will help AIR, APS, and the APS After-School System Advisory Group make decisions about after-school programming based on your goals, preferences, and needs. The information you share will also help us understand what is currently happening in after-school programs across the community. This is an opportunity to let your voice be heard, and we hope that you will share your opinions with us. There are no anticipated or known risks in participating in this survey beyond those ordinarily encountered in daily life.

Do I have to take the survey?

This survey is voluntary. Choosing not to participate will not affect you in any way. If you decide to participate, please note that some questions are optional, while some are mandatory to move forward in the survey. If you do not want to answer the question, you may answer “I don’t know” to proceed.
You may also end the survey at any time without penalty.

Privacy and Freedom to Withdraw

Your individual survey responses will be available only to the AIR team; your information will not be made public. Your answers will be summarized with other responses for reporting purposes to APS. We will not use your name in any report. Participation is voluntary, and participants may choose not to answer any questions. Participating in the survey will not affect your child’s participation in the after-school programs. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Jill Young at 312-288-7635 or jiyoung@air.org. For general questions about the APS After-School System, please contact Shannon Blackard at smblackard@aurorak12.org or by calling 720-614-6478.
