Valley Metro is seeking public comment from October 16 – November 17, 2017 on proposed service adjustments scheduled to take effect on April 23, 2018.

Background

Valley Metro and City of Phoenix service changes occur as a way to develop an effective regional transit system that supports Valley communities, businesses and residents. Public input is requested on the following proposed service changes scheduled to take effect on April 23, 2018. All City of Phoenix-operated service requires approval by the Phoenix City Council. All Valley Metro-operated service requires approval by the Valley Metro Board of Directors.

  • Modify routes: 1, 30, 32, 44, 51, 59, 70, 77, 81, 251, 514, 571, 573, 575, Central South Mountain East RAPID, Grand Avenue Limited, Scottsdale Downtown Trolley

* 7. Northwest Valley Express Optimization

Please select which option you prefer for the reorganization of Routes 571, 573, 573, and the Grand Avenue Limited. The route changes listed under each option will only move forward if the entire option is approved.

Option 1:
  • Route 571 – Surprise Express: Route modification addition to Glendale Park-and-Ride for three a.m. inbound trips, two a.m. inbound trips from Surprise Park-and-Ride on Grand Ave. with an increase to five p.m. outbound trips to the Glendale and Surprise Park and Ride locations.
  • Route 573 – Northwest Valley Express: Route modification for four a.m. inbound trips from the Glendale Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center from Glendale Park-and-Ride via Loop 101 and I-10; and four p.m. outbound trips to the Glendale Park-and-Ride, Arrowhead Transit Center and Glendale Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center.
  • Route 575 – Northwest Valley Express: In order to accommodate additional route service modifications for Route 571, Route 573 and Grand Avenue Express, Route 575 would be eliminated. 
  • Grand Avenue Limited: With an increase in service frequency to four a.m. Inbound and four p.m. outbound trips, the current service will transition to become the Grand Avenue Express. Fare will be increased by $1.25 per ride.
Option 2:
  • Route 571 – Surprise Express: Route modification addition to Glendale Park-and-Ride for three a.m. inbound trips, two a.m. inbound trips from Surprise Park-and-Ride on Grand Ave. with an increase to five p.m. outbound trips to the Glendale and Surprise Park-and-Ride locations.
  • Route 573 – Northwest Valley Express: New service for four a.m. inbound trips from the Glendale Park-and-Ride via Loop 101 to I-10 with four p.m. outbound trips.
  • Route 575 – Northwest Valley Express: Route modification for three a.m. inbound trips from the Glendale Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center via I-17 and three p.m. outbound trips from downtown Phoenix to the Glendale Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center.
  • Grand Avenue Limited: The a.m. inbound and p.m. outbound will both increase to three trips.

Currently, Routes 30 and 77 serve the South Mountain Community College campus. The proposed modification would reroute to no longer enter the South Mountain Community College campus or serve the campus with limited trips.
