Amphi Sustainability Survey Part II

In December, the District sent out a Sustainability Survey regarding Amphi’s environmental efforts. Since then, a Sustainability Committee has been formed and we would like to follow up on the results of the original survey with some more specific questions.

Passive rainwater harvesting. Passive water harvesting is the practice of shaping the landscape to slow down and redirect water to where it can be used by vegetation. Good candidates for this might be sites that are interested in replacing decorative turf grass with native landscaping.

Active rainwater harvesting. Active water harvesting is the capture of rainwater in barrels, cisterns, and other containers to store rainwater for later use. Good candidates for this might be sites with gardens that can be located near a water storage container. The gardens must be maintained by the site.

Replacing older toilets with high-efficiency, low-flow toilets. Good candidates for this might be sites with toilets that use 3.5 gallons-per-flush or more.

Installing water bottle fillers. Good candidates for this might be sites with no bottle fillers or sites with drinking fountains that need to be replaced.

Participating in specialized recycling. Good candidates for this might be sites that are able to collect batteries, electronics, toner, light bulbs, markers, eyeglasses, etc.

Programmable thermostats. Good candidates for this might be sites with manual thermostats that are often left on overnight and during weekends.

Environmental education. Good candidates for this might be sites that would like to invite outside presenters to speak about energy efficiency, water conservation, or recycling.
