Growing Older in Corsham
Last year, Corsham joined the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities. This means that we are committed to making Corsham a place that enables people over 50 to age well and live a good later life.
The UK Network is part of a global movement led by the World Health Organisation (WHO). That means over 26 million people, including Corsham’s residents, are living in an age-friendly community that supports healthy and active ageing.
Working in consultation with older residents, the Town Council, local groups, organisations and businesses, can start to identify and make changes to both Corsham’s physical and social environments. This includes making outdoor spaces and buildings safer and more accessible; looking at affordable, reliable transport; ensuring there are good housing options; offering leisure, cultural and spiritual activities that allow people to be a part of the community and providing opportunities for older people to contribute, either in employment or as a volunteer; ensuring that everyone is treated with respect and ageism is challenged; making information accessible to all, and supporting health initiatives and services.
As we start work on this important project, we need your views on all the different areas of work that to into creating an age-friendly community, so thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. It looks lengthy but it is fairly quick to complete.
All responses are anonymous but if you would like to hear more about our age-friendly work, or get involved in some way, please email Vickie Fauset, Community Wellbeing Officer, at vfauset@corsham.gov.uk.
