Adopt A Library
Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated much of the Caribbean, and libraries were not spared. In addition to its fundraising effort for disaster relief, the American Library Association (ALA) has partnered with Reforma, the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and Spanish Speakers, on this Adopt a Library Program to match damaged or destroyed libraries in the region with libraries and other organizations in the United States and elsewhere that would like to assist in their recovery.
Libraries and organizations can assist through fundraising; donating books and other resources such as supplies and equipment; providing advice, volunteers, etc.
If your library or organization is interested in adopting a library please fill out your information here. ALA will work to match you with a library in need. We are hoping that supply exceeds demand, and that we are able to match multiple libraries to those in need. The reporting and assessment of damaged libraries are still going on so it may take a few weeks before a match can be made for you.
