This survey is part of a grant awarded to Acclaim Otago by the New Zealand Law Foundation to investigate barriers to access to justice for people challenging ACC's decisions.
ACCESS TO JUSTICE refers to factors that affect whether someone came to Court on the day of their hearing ready to present their best possible case. We aim to collect information about themes that we have identified, including whether a person had legal representation, who produced what evidence, whether there was enough time, and other factors that contribute to the preparation and presentation of a person's case.
The survey asks questions of LAWYERS, ADVOCATES, and CLAIMANTS. We have indicated at various places throughout the survey who the questions are for. Hopefully this will avoid any confusion.
The survey also uses "skip logic", which means that you will not see every question in this survey depending on your answers to previous questions. For example, we will not ask you about your experience as a lawyer if you have previously indicated you are not a lawyer!
The wording of the survey is also designed to make sense to people who have only had one dispute, as well as people who have had more than one. For this reason, it asks a lot about "your experience" with ACC appeals.
If you are a lawyer or advocate, the questions are asking about your clients. If you are a claimant, then the questions ask about your experience with ACC appeals - whether you have had only one, or several.
Please make an effort to answer each question. Answer each question as it applies in your experience only.
Your answers will be used as part of our research. They will be referred to as aggregated data, but we also reserve the right to quote any text you enter, but only in a way that will ensure your anonymity. If you do not wish any text you enter to be quoted anonymously, please indicate that preference when you enter the text.
You are able to change your answers to survey questions right up until you finish the survey.
