Question Title

* 8. In-Person Absentee Voting at Satellite Locations (about 40 people needed)

Satellite Absentee Voting is currently hiring new seasonal staff to help at various in-person absentee voting locations before the November 2020 election. You will interact with voters.

You need to commit to working the entire period from October 14 to October 31 at the location you are assigned with some flexibility. Your work hours will be the scheduled satellite hours with additional time for opening and closing. You need to be able to sit and stand for periods of time as well as push, lift and carry items. Satellite-specific training will be held in late September and is required prior to every election. You are still eligible to work as an election officer in a polling place on Election Day.

Question Title

* 9. Processing mailed absentee ballots (about 200 people needed)

Join the teams that process mailed absentee ballots returned to the Office of Elections! We sort and otherwise prepare the return mailers for review and processing; indicate on the voter’s record in the statewide voter database that a ballot has been received; review the “Statement of Voter” to preprocess accepted ballots by indicating this status on the voter’s record, open the ballot envelope, then run the ballot through the high-speed digital scanner. We will have several teams assigned to these tasks. In addition, we’ll need a small team to conduct the ballot scanning operation daily, and other staff to take care of associated tasks.

Because of the expected number of mailed-in ballots, we will schedule two shifts a day, six days a week. Each team will work three days a week, M-W-F or T-Th-Sat, and either 8:30 am – 2:30 pm or 3 p.m. – 9 p.m. We expect opportunities to work a few Sundays as well. Schedules and workloads are dictated by the number of ballots received daily, so, particularly in the beginning, there may be short days. Work would commence on Sept. 28 and 29 and continue until Election Day (some staff will be needed for a few days after election day). You are still eligible to work as an election officer in a polling place on Election Day.

All work takes place in the Fairfax County Government Center, and most of the tasks may be conducted while seated. The scan team will spend more time on their feet. If you’re interested, let us know the schedule you’d like to work.
