1. Introduction

We are pleased that you are interested in applying for the Leadership Academy at the Akron Bar Association. The Leadership Academy was developed as an objective undertaken in 2013 by the Young Lawyer Task Force. Through the Academy, the Bar seeks to identify emerging members who are leaders in the practice of law and in their community. Once identified, these leaders will be assisted in improving their skills as a lawyer and as a community leader through the activities of the Leadership Academy program.

The Leadership Academy accepts emerging members of the Akron Bar Association who have been in practice from one to eight years. The Academy is scheduled to run from September 2017 through June 2018.  The Academy Planning Committee has developed monthly events that will promote the listed goals of the Academy. The Academy will meet on the following dates (tentative):

If you are interested in being a part of the Leadership Academy, you must complete this application before May 31, 2017.

In conjunction with this online application, applicants must submit separately a resume, three reference letters, photograph, and a cover letter indicating why you wish to participate, as well as detailing the three most important issues you believe are facing the legal profession/community and how you can address those issues through your participation.

Interviews will take place on Monday, June 5, 2017, between 1 - 5 p.m., and Friday, June 12, 2017, starting 7:30 a.m.  Applicants must participate in the interview process to be considered for admission to the Academy. The selection committee will present proposed members to the board of the Bar Association. Once approved, selected members of the class will receive notification. Anticipated notification date will be before Thursday, June 8, 2017.

Those selected should be members of the Akron Bar Association or must join before starting the Academy.
