African American Read-In Local Events 2016

African American Read-In

For over 25 years hundreds of communities across the country and around the world have organized events in the month of February to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month. This celebration, conceived of by the Black Caucus of NCTE in 1989, involves tens of thousands of participants every year. From living rooms to libraries to book stores to classrooms to university campuses these celebrations come in all shapes and sizes. Hosting a Read-In can be as simple as bringing together friends to share a book, or as elaborate as arranging public readings and media presentations that feature professional African American writers.

We invite you to share information about your local event so that we can share it on the National African American Read-In page.
